VDI for Higher Education

Increase your remote learning effectiveness with a powerful virtual desktop infrastructure.

Higher institutions face unprecedented, long-term requirements to enable successful remote learning in 2020. Technology can either be a roadblock to achieving success or, a critical support structure for seamless collaboration and education.

With Google Cloud and Citrix, Burwood Group designs customized, cloud-based VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) environments with the capacity and scale to support essential classroom applications.

Technology to Improve Application Access and Collaboration

Remote Labs, Classroom Applications, and More

Virtual desktop infrastructure technology can be a powerful engine for serving the needs of a remote and diverse student, faculty, and staff population. When you virtualize applications and give students remote access from any device on or off-campus, you remove the old barriers of a costly, complex education experience. Commonly-solved challenges include:

  • Remote Lab Access: Heavy, 3D and graphically-intensive applications like AutoCad and Revit usually require students to complete their work on-campus at best, and in a physical computer lab at worst. With vGPUs, you can deliver graphics to remote users with the same experience they would get from a PC.

  • Institutional and Corporate Applications: The experience of faculty and staff in the 2020-2021 academic year is very different from years’ past. Remote access to administrative, scheduling, and payroll applications is a productivity requirement. Citrix uses application virtualization technology to deliver these apps to personal devices.

  • Classroom Applications: All students will require remote access to applications they take for granted, like Canvas and Microsoft. The Google Cloud infrastructure supports any variety of requirements, and in combination with Citrix provides a seamless virtual learning and collaboration space for every student, with flexible and secure storage.
